JOSHUA TREE FAMILY CAMP-OUT

November 12 – 14, 2004

It’s not too late to sign up for a great weekend of family fun, scouting skills, camping, campfires, rock climbing, hiking, stargazing and memories in the making.  We have reserved group campsites for Veteran’s Day weekend.  Scouts will set up tents and patrol cooking for Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast.  Family equipment and meals are handled on their own separate from the scouts.  Saturday Night dessert will be prepared by the scouts for all in camp.  "Class A" uniform is not required, however, scouts should wear their troop t-shirts (Class B) and bring their Boy Scout handbooks to have activities signed off.

Bring old jeans for rock climbing - the granite in Joshua Tree is very abrasive and will tear holes in the knees and seats of pants of climbers that scoot or slide on the rock.

COST:  $20 per scout/family

Fee includes 2 meals for scouts, Saturday night dessert and camp fees.

Indian Cove Campsites are located just off of Hwy 62 between West entrance to Joshua Tree and the Oasis Visitor Center.  The sites are outside the park and there is a $10 fee for anyone wishing to drive into the National Park.  Take Interstate 10 east to Hwy 62 exit (Palm Springs/Moreno Valley), go north to Moreno Valley and continue to Indian Cove Rd.

Water is not available at the campsites, so plan ahead and bring plenty of water for cooking, washing dishes and drinking.  Each family should also bring firewood for individual and group campfires.  It does get cold at night, bring heavy jackets, ski caps and gloves.  Any guitar players? Bring your guitar.
